Over at NLS, Ben Tribbett responds to Larry Sabato's story about a (supposed) shakeup at the Deeds campaign, with the subtle (ha) headline, "TAKE YOUR CHEAP TOUPEE AND SHOVE IT UP YOUR...." More substantively Ben charges Sabato with "pay-for-play politics," that the Deeds campaign "politely decline[d]" Sabato "moderating one of the Governor's debates this year," and that Sabato "was absolutely furious that the blogger debate happened in the primary, and specifically that "Not Larry Sabato" was allowed to moderate it, when he hadn't been able to moderate a statewide debate since 2005." Ah, soap operas! :)
Meanwhile, Larry Sabato stands by his story, tweeting that "I received multiple and highly reliable source confirmations throughout the day and evening about the Deeds campaign shake-up. It's real." Sabato adds that "WaPo & other MSM printed non-denial denials of top Deeds officials as though they were the final word. Amusing. But face-saving is OK w/me." Finally, on a related note, Sabato reports, "There is now almost no chance ex-Gov. Doug Wilder will endorse Deeds. He won't endorse McDonnell either, but a D usually backs a D."
Finally, I received a tip from a normally reliable source yesterday that top Deed's advisor Monica Dixon's husband, David Dixon (media consultant for Deeds), could very well have been the "coup leader." If, of course, such a coup attempt was made. According to this source, "it's Monica's M.O. to be the inside gal for the media consultant."
Finally, just to close the loop, NLS is considering whether or not to reveal the "few VERY close [people] to Creigh Deeds who have their own motives for lying and handing Sabato the knife he attempted to use today to kill off Joe Abbey."
On and on it goes, where it stops...does anyone know?
