Howard Dean Destroys Newt Gingrich on Health Care Reform

Sunday, August 9, 2009

On "This Week" earlier today, Howard Dean debated Newt Gingrich on health care reform. Watch the video and decide for yourself, but from what I saw, Dr. Dean did extremely well, totally demolishing the standard, nonsensical Republican scare-the-crap-out-of-people talking points that Newt-ster regurgitates. The bottom line is this: on health care, Newt and Company have no ideas except for saying "no" to everything and effectively keeping the current, unsustainable system exactly the same. Staying with the status quo, as Republicans like Eric Cantor and Sarah Palin want, might make Big Pharma and the for-profit health insurance companies (you know, the ones who tell you whether or not you can get a procedure, get reimbursed for things your doctor said you needed, etc.) happy, and it might totally bankrupt our country, but other than that it's a great idea! (snark)

UPDATE: But wait, it gets WORSE! That's right, Newt Gingrich actually defends Sarah Palin's "death panel" remarks. Also, what is this garbage about not trusting our own government, the one that WE ELECTED, but of course trusting the wonderful, altruistic private insurance companies and their warm-and-fuzzy, benevolent bureaucrats to decide what health care you get access to? Only in bizarro, market-worshipping Republican la-la land.
