In other news, Virginia's largest utility Dominion Power has made a request to the Federal government for stimulus funds to install the "smart meter" system in every customer home.Now, if we could just get an aggressive, mandatory Renewable Portfolio Standard in Virginia, stop Dominion from building new coal-fired power plants, and institute decoupling so that Dominion's profits are tied to saving energy not wasting it.
While I've had my issues with Dominion, I strongly support their application. Smart-metering is a technology whose time is way overdue. It is unacceptable that we contine to heat, light and cool spaces that don't need it. Far too much energy is wasted "on the grid" because of our failure to implement technology matching supply to actual need.
