Mark Warner Rips "Outrageous Scare Tactics" by Anti-Health Care Reform Folks
Tuesday, August 4, 2009
...There's a lot of misinformation out there, there's a lot of misinformation about taking away health care, or some government bureaucrat in between you and your doctor...As if there's not some kind of insurance bureaucrat in between you and your doctor already.
One of the most egregious things I've seen in my whole political life, though, is what took place in the last week or 10 days. I, for example, have got a bill around the issue of end-of-life discussions, how do we make sure that seniors and their families got a chance to have that kind of discussion, have all their choices available to them, have that chance to sit down with their minister or priest or rabbi and talk through these issues, and then to see some of the outrageous scare tactics played by some of the anti-reform folks out there, saying that somehow healthcare reform is going to limit seniors and their choices or lead to euthanasia, that is beyond the pale, I've never seen any kind of tactic like that in my 20 years around politics.
The purpose of Blue Virginia is to cover Virginia politics from a progressive and Democratic perspective. This is a group blog, founded by me (Lowell Feld), but now including several other progressive writers. I can't speak for the other "front pagers," but I consider myself a progressive in the tradition of Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, JFK, RFK and actually a bunch of progressive Republicans (e.g., Jacob Javits, Lowell Weicker). As such, I believe in expanding opportunities to all, utilizing government as a tool to promote the general welfare and the common good, protecting the environment for ourselves and for future generations, and expanding the rights promised in our Constitution and Bill of Rights to all Americans.
I invite everyone to comment here, but please be aware that profanity, personal attacks, bigotry, and "trolling" are not allowed. Thanks, and enjoy!
