Josh on "Moran's Astonishing Negativity"

Check out this excellent post by Josh Chernila at Daily Dogwood, entitled "Moran's Astonishing Negativity." I agree 100% with Josh that "one thing that will simply jump off the screen [from last night's debate] is the endless stream of negative attacks and whining complaints issuing from the mouth of candidate Brian Moran." I further agree that "Moran has spent two years campaigning for this office and he has still failed to pull together a central message," and instead he's "fallen back on vicious attacks and whining complaints."

Finally, I've got to say that for people like myself who consider Brian Moran a good man and a (former?) friend, this is extremely disappointing and saddening. To illustrate what Josh and I are saying, please see the comments section for Moran's all-attack-all-the-time closing statement last night.

  1. Moran’s closing statement: 1 1/2 minutes of nastiness and negativity

"I too want to want to thank the organizers of this wonderful debate. Obviously there are some clear distinctions and important ones between the candidates here tonight. And all of you here tonight do deserve to have a few facts clarified. You know, I know Terry claims he’s running this positive campaign, won’t say a negative word about a Democrat. But he ran the campaign that ran the 3am ad against our president, said he wasn’t fit to be a commander in chief. He runs—you know he sends out the emails and communicates with people, Creigh Deeds and I could learn something about negative campaigning from him. Last night in Danville, Terry tried to wash his hands of Global Crossing, where 10,000 workers lost their jobs. He made $18 million. But the New York Times reports that he was a paid consultant to Global Crossing CEO company when it was started and that he worked out of the CEO’s office in Washington, DC. So, you know, you can’t have it both ways, when people got hurt it was his problem.

He claims his record at the DNC qualifies him to be the governor of Virginia and he’s going to raise all this money. The Democratic nominee will have sufficient resources. We always have, we will, we have Governor Tim Kaine as the DNC Chair and we have the President of the United States of America campaigning with us. In his own words, Terry said he would be judged by whether or not he won or lost races. While he was there, Democrats lost 10 House races, 6 Senate seats and the presidency of the United States to George Bush. And now, when he promises to create so many jobs t would be more than the last 5 Virginia governors combined. That¹s just not believable either.

Terry its time to be honest with the voters. This is too serious to get wrong. We must beat Bob McDonnell this fall. These difficult times demand serious leadership. To elect a Democratic governor in November, we need to nominate someone who as been there fighting for Virginians for 20 years and has a bold vision for Virginia¹s future. I have been there, you know what I will do as your next governor because I have been there for you, I will fight for you each and everyday."

  2. You can't BLAME people for going so negative so often on TMac.
In the military, they call that a "target-rich environment."
The guy has so many shady business deals, flip flops, and skeletons in his closet, it's hard to know which one to go after from day to day.
