P.S. Also, I strongly recommend Chris Graham's excellent article, "Negative enough for ya?" Graham notes that in 2001 and 2005, the candidates (Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, respectively) viewed by voters as running the more "positive" campaigns won, while the candidates viewed as being too "negative" (Mark Earley and Jerry Kilgore) lost. Unfortunately for Democrats, this time around voters view Creigh Deeds as running the more "negative" campaign and Bob McDonnell the more "positive." Ruh roh.
