Well that advertisement will certainly ring true with the majority of Virginia voters (sarcasm).
I wonder what the plus to minus ratio is on that advertisement (votes gained measured against votes lost)?
Maybe it is a GOTV (Get Out The Vote) effort? Well just how large is the gay vote?
I cast my vote for Shannon. I am going to be attempting to encourage those I have influence on to cast their votes for Shannon in my own GOTV effort. I just hope some of who I am going to be talking to didn't get on the internet and see this one.
Why are we shooting ourselves in the foot? It is hard enough to encourage tolerance but that is not enough. This special interest demands encouragement.
OK, please be as careful with slinging the bigot word as you asked me to be. I only ask of you that which you asked of me.
There is a difference between tolerance and encouragement. Personally I hope that in the face of increasing drug resistance to sexually transmitted diseases as reported by the medical community we do not have to go back to the scarlet letter A for adulterers (although in pursuit of sexual equality such measures should apply to men as well as women).
A proportion of my argument against acceptance of homosexuality was recently made by a lesbian organization on NPR (National Public Radio). I found myself partially in agreement with them. It is only MSM (Male Sex with Males) that is the problem, not lesbians.
Giving the right of marriage to homosexuals is what I would describe as being encouragement. One, such as myself, can be tolerant of what I disagree with however still be anti-gay marriage. What someone does in the privacy of their bedroom is none of my business, however that does not mean I have to give my blessing to what is going on in there once it becomes a public issue.
Thankfully, I was able to vote on this issue by itself when I voted with the majority to define marriage as between one man and one woman in the Virginia Constitution. That made it much easier for me to vote during the same election for candidates like Jim Webb who held an opposing viewpoint.
Please note I said I only partially agreed with the lesbian organization. I agreed with them that the majority of blame for why homosexuals suffer from sexually transmitted diseases at a far higher rate then society as a whole lies at the feet (or other body parts) of male homosexuals. However that does not mean we should then agree to allow lesbians to get married and not gay males. We have to have gender equality.
I entertained doing a similiar post with many carriage returns.
Every gay couple can vote with me as long as their right to get married is denied in the state constitution. When my opinion is not protected by the constitution, I am just going to have another impotant issue to consider when it comes time to vote.
We live in Virginia after all. There are more accepting areas in our nation of "gay rights" and in those areas being pro-gay might win them votes. While I might be wrong, it is my opinion that running on gay rights in Virginia leads to a greater loss in a candidate's appeal to the average voter then it gets them checks on the positive side.
Now you can profit from positive or negative price movement.
Cfds, or spread trading, is based on
price differential from start to close, enabling one to profit even in an erratic market
The purpose of Blue Virginia is to cover Virginia politics from a progressive and Democratic perspective. This is a group blog, founded by me (Lowell Feld), but now including several other progressive writers. I can't speak for the other "front pagers," but I consider myself a progressive in the tradition of Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, Tom Paine, Teddy Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt, JFK and RFK. As such, I believe in expanding opportunities to all, utilizing government as a tool to promote the general welfare and the common good, protecting the environment for ourselves and for future generations, and expanding the rights promised in our Constitution and Bill of Rights to all Americans.
I invite everyone to comment here, but please be aware that profanity, personal attacks, bigotry, and "trolling" are not allowed. Thanks, and enjoy!

So, being against bigotry and intolerance is now a "special interest." Fascinating.

I understand perfectly: Little David is only a half-hearted bigot!
ReplyDeleteLesbians are OK, MSMs are bad.
But I do not understand how tolerance of homosexuality becomes encouragement of it!
