The U.S Chamber of Commerce lost another key member as Apple Inc. announced it's departure yesterday after the organization continued to attack the Waxman-Markey energy bill.
Some key statements from Catherin Novelli, Apple Vice President:
"We strongly object to the chamber's recent comments opposing the EPA's effort to limit greenhouse gases"
"Apple supports regulating greenhouse gas emissions, and it is frustrating to find the chamber at odds with us in this effort."
"We would prefer the chamber take a more progressive stance on this critical issue and play a constructive role in addressing the climate crisis"
Apple is the fourth company to resign it's membership with the Chamber, following PG&E, PNM, and Exelon. Nike has resigned it's position on the Chamber's Board of Directors, and released the following statement:
"We believe that on the issue of climate change the chamber has not represented the diversity of perspective held by the board of directors. Therefore, we have decided to resign our board of directors position. We will continue our membership to advocate for climate change legislation inside the committee structure and believe that we can better influence policy by being part of the conversation. Moving forward we will continue to evaluate our membership."
