Stevens Miller Proposes Non-Discrimination Policy for Loudoun County

Tuesday, January 5, 2010

With talk that McDonnell won't renew Tim Kaine's Executive Order #1, "which protects employees from discrimination based on sexual orientation," Loudoun County Supervisor Stevens Miller has proposed the following:
SUBJECT: REVISION OF EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY STATEMENT

INITIATED BY: Supervisor Stevens Miller

ELECTION DISTRICT: Countywide

CRITICAL ACTION DATE: January 5, 2010

RECOMMENDATION: Supervisor Miller is recommending that the County Equal Employment Opportunity Policy be updated to include no discrimination based on sexual orientation. Supervisor Miller would also recommend the Board direct staff to revise other areas of the Human Resources Policy Handbook to comply with the updated non-discrimination policy.
Sounds like a good idea, although even better would be to have a statewide policy barring discrimination against GLBT citizens. Still, good work by Stevens Miller in proposing this change, which I urge Loudoun County (and other counties) to adopt.
