Tom Shields "Stands Up for Virginia" This Sunday in Henrico

Friday, April 17, 2009

Tom Shields, Democratic candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates in the 73rd district against Republican Del. John O'Bannon, talks with voters about extending unemployment benefits and what they can do to help. This Sunday, the DPVA is sponsoring petition canvasses across the state in their "Stand Up for Virginia" campaign to put pressure on Republicans in the Virginia House of Delegates to reverse course and accept the $125 million in federal stimulus funds they rejected last week. Tom Shields is going to be running one of these canvasses in the 73rd district.

If you're interested in helping "Stand Up For Virginia," meet Tom at 1 PM Sunday in the Three Chopt Elementary School parking lot, 1600 Skipwith Rd. in Henrico. I hear it will be even better than a "tea party"! :)

P.S. Shields raised $18,607 in the first quarter of 2009 and now has $23,305 "cash on hand." O'Bannon raised $141,475 and has $143,127 cash on hand, so obviously Shields needs some help catching up with O'Bannon...

P.P.S. $90,000 of the money O'Bannon "raised" in 1Q09 actually was money he had in his PAC, Commonwealth First. Of that money, $89,500 was previously transferred from his candidate committee. So, actually, O'Bannon raised significantly less NEW money in 1Q09 than the $141,475 reported to the State Board of Elections. Still, money is money, and if Tom Shields is going to have a chance in this race, he's going to need a lot more of it.
