Brian Schweitzer to Endorse Terry McAuliffe for Governor

Thursday, June 4, 2009

A top-notch endorsement for Terry McAuliffe, following Ed Rendell's endorsement earlier today:
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, the chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, will endorse former Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe's (Va.) gubernatorial primary bid tomorrow in northern Virginia, according to sources familiar with the move.

Schweitzer will throw his support to McAulliffe tomorrow morning in Arlington and then the two will travel together to events in Richmond and Charlottesville...

[...]

Schweitzer's endorsement is in his capacity as governor of Montana not as chairman of the DGA, according to knowledgeable sources, but the practical effect is the same.
Chris Cillizza adds that Schweitzer's endorsement "sends a message that not only does Schweitzer think McAuliffe will win next Tuesday's primary (otherwise, why fly in from Montana to stand with a potential loser) but also that McAuliffe represents the best chance for Democrats to keep the seat in the fall election."

Nice.

P.S. NLS broke this story several weeks ago.
