Here's UVA Professor Larry Sabato's response to
this story, specifically the allegation that "folks from the Center for Politics called Politico.com to pitch the story, and Politico.com obligingly ran their hit piece."
The allegation is completely, utterly false. [T]he author of this post needs to find much better "sources", because he or she is badly misinformed by the current ones. No one from the Center for Politics pitched the story to Politico.com in any way. We were first contacted by Politico after the reporter had already formed his thesis, using his own D.C.-based sources. Like most conspiracy theories, this one dissolves upon examination.
