For more information on the Trade Reform, Accountability, Development, and Employment (TRADE) Act of 2009, please click here. The main goals are: 1) to set labor, environmental protection, and product safety standards for trade deals; 2) to review existing trade deals - NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. - "to assess economic outcomes in the U.S. and abroad and various security, human rights, social and environmental indicators"; 3) to require the president "to submit detailed plans to Congress outlining how he will ensure the agreements meet the standards outlined in the bill;" and 4) to lay out criteria "for a new mechanism to replace the anti-democratic Fast Track negotiating process for trade deals." Good stuff, nice job by Tom Perriello!
