Let’s face it, oil needs to go the way of the dinosaur. Anyone out there making a serious argument for drill baby drill is conducting self-examination for colon polyps. The best case scenario I’ve seen for ANWR is a 6 month supply. If we go after every drop around the continental shelf we might find 7-8 years worth at current consumption rates. We use approximately 20 million barrels per day, and produce about 8, which means we’re sending our capital offshore at a rate of about 1 billion dollars daily...Good stuff, is there a bit of Teddy Roosevelt lurking at Too Conservative? I'm going to keep watching and hoping...
We should tax gasoline at .50 per gallon and raise it every year until we get to 2 bucks.
If we did this, in combination with a cash for clunkers type of program and tax credits for fuel efficiency we could reduce our fuel consumption by approximately 50%, buying us valuable time to develop renewable sources of energy...

I don't agree with all of this; nonetheless, "Cato the Elder" at Too Conservative (combined with Brian S.'s strong condemnation of Ken Kookinelli and "Loudoun Insider"'s stand against right wingnut Mark Sell) gives me hope that there might be at least a bit of sanity in the Republican Party.
