Talking Points Memo caught a clip of Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) on Fox News today telling the host, "What you're seeing is folks on my side anxious to see what the president has to say tomorrow night. I think he's gonna have to express some humility based on what we've seen around the country this August and that's not his inclination."
Why should the President of the United States of America show "humitity" to Republican Senators -- a group that's 100% white? And why is it "not his inclination"?
Let's put all the cards on the table, shall we? Because Barack Obama is black. That boy better know his role and show some respect. But Saxby doesn't think he will, because he's uppity like the rest of his kind.
It's just the latest example of a Southern Republican member of Congress making racially-tinged remarks about Barack Obama:
- April 2008 -- Rep. Geoff Davis (R-KY) refers to then-candidate Barack Obama as "that boy"; later apologizes.
- September 2008 -- Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) calls Barack and Michelle Obama "uppity." Despite growing up in the Jim Crow South during the height of civil rights unrest, Westmoreland repeatedly denies knowing the term is racially tinged.
- February 2009 -- Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) becomes the highest-ranking public official to unofficially join the birther movement, which questions Obama's place of birth on no more evidence than his name and skin color.
But I'm sure the media will say all of the above is a wash because Van Jones called Republicans assholes once, right? Inciting racial hatred and describing someone as tough politically -- it's all the same!
