Bob Holsworth: LG Race About to Heat Up Big Time

Thursday, September 17, 2009

Over at Virginia Tomorrow, Bob Holsworth has a fascinating article about how the Virginia lieutenant governor has been "relatively low-key so far," but how "this is about to change...[i]n a big way." In particular, I recommend that you read Holsworth's thoughts on the "job performance" (or lack therefor) line of attack against Bill Bolling.
Wagner maintains that Bolling has not met a number of his basic responsibilities as Lieutenant-Governor and has been a “No-Show.” In particular, she points to the meetings of various boards and commissions of which the Lieutenant Governor is a member and suggests that Bolling has not even met his minimal obligations of attending.

Until yesterday, I thought this was a minor note in the campaign.

I don’t anymore
.
Meanwhile, Wagner's campaign manager Elisabeth Pearson responded earlier today to what it calls "the Bolling campaign's excuse for his absenteeism for meetings of the state boards and commissions during his time as Lieutenant Governor." According to Pearson:
It's not surprising that Bill Bolling thinks the duties of the office of Lieutenant Governor aren't worth his actual time and effort. After all, this is the same guy that said he didn't have enough time to do his work as a legislator, and simply relied on lobbyists for his information. The real question is: what does Bill Bolling have time for?
Good question, I've wondered the same thing myself for a long time!

P.S. Holsworth concludes that "Much of the public has yet to witness it, but this is becoming one tough race." I hope he's right!
