Bill Bolling Ducking Debate With Jody Wagner?

Sunday, September 20, 2009

Bill Bolling obviously doesn't want to put his pathetic record of non-accomplishment on the line in public. Instead, he hopes to fly under the radar screen to reelection, never allowing the voters of Virginia to fully understand the differences between him and his opponent. Finally, based on the behavior described in the Wagner for LG statement below, the arrogant and cowardly Bolling obviously has no respect for Virginia voters. Looks like we have another "Jerry the Duck" on our hands; what are these Republicans so afraid of anyway?.
Jody Wagner today reaffirmed her commitment to attend the first debate of the Lt. Governor campaign this Thursday, despite a threat by Bill Bolling to pull out of the event at the last minute.

The event, sponsored by the Prince William 100 and scheduled for Thursday evening, is one of two debates previously agreed upon by both campaigns. Earlier in the campaign, Wagner had called for a series of five debates.

Over the weekend, the Bolling campaign informed the debate sponsors that it would pull out unless the previously-agreed to rules were altered to include a "no-use agreement." Such an agreement was not a part of the rules proposed by the sponsor or agreed to by the campaigns.

Virginians for Wagner Campaign Manager Elisabeth Pearson released the following statement today regarding the Bolling campaign threat to pull out of Thursday's debate:

"We knew that Lt. Governor Bolling didn't like to show-up for work but we didn't expect him to also be a no-show for the first of two debates agreed upon by the campaigns months ago. Bill Bolling has only been willing to agree to two debates or joint appearances during the course of the campaign, despite Jody's call for five debates. Now, just days before, Bill Bolling is threatening to pull out of the event if the previously agreed-upon rules aren't changed.

"Unlike the gubernatorial candidate debates, this debate is not televised and will not receive significant statewide coverage. Jody believes each campaign should have the ability to rebroadcast the debate over the internet so that more people have a chance to hear the exchange of ideas, just as the Attorney General's debate was. Why Bill Bolling would object to that is beyond comprehension.

"Jody still plans on showing up to address the members of the Prince William 100 and larger community, under the rules that were previously agreed to. She believes that engaging in a dialogue on the future of the Commonwealth is not only necessary but her duty as a candidate for office, and that voters across Virginia deserve to hear that exchange.

"We sincerely hope that Bill Bolling agrees. We look forward to seeing him at the debate on Thursday."
