2. TWO GROUPS OF WOMEN HELP PUT THE RACE INTO FOCUS ("...for many, the thesis will not be a deciding factor in their vote, but most Virginia women disagree with the thesis's policy ideas concerning women and gay people.")
4. WILDER SEES PIVOTAL VA. VOTE ("Seeing this as a pivotal moment in a very important election, Mr. Wilder said he would break with tradition and announce his endorsement for governor late this week at a time when polling numbers indicate that the race has tightened.")

7. DEEDS, MCDONNELL SPLIT OVER ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY (the key quote is from LCV director Lisa Guthrie, "who has known McDonnell for years and served on his regulatory reform panel from 2006 to 2008," and says that the differences between Deeds and McDonnell on the environment are "about as clear as you can get")

One more: See Lee Hockstader's Washington Post op-ed on the "study in contrasts" between Creigh Deeds ("the folksy, likeable, from-the-heart Democrat wrestling with his artless delivery...who seems to struggle with packaging, delivery and framing of issues,[and] doesn’t quite seem to have figured out how to capitalize on the advantages he has") and Bob McDonnell ("coolly adroit, silver-tongued...organized to a fare-thee-well and polished to a high gleam"). Also in that article is this unintentionally funny "wit and wisdom" from our ol' friend Tom Davis (who got drummed out of the Republican Party, essentially, because he was too "moderate" for the extreme-right-wing bunch in charge today):
“All Deeds has is the thesis,” said a grinning Tom Davis, a former moderate Republican congressman from Northern Virginia who quit politics -- largely because the state GOP had been taken over by conservatives much like McDonnell. (But why harp on that?) “That’s all he’s got.”
