Palin Raises "Birther" Issue, Quickly Quits It

Friday, December 4, 2009

Is there anything Sarah Palin won't quit (a bunch of colleges, her job as governor of Alaska, etc.)? Now, it's being a wacko "birther": first she was, then - a few hours later - she apparently wasn't anymore.

First, Palin yesterday said - in an interview with right-wing radio host Rusty Humphries (see above for audio) - "that the legitimacy of President Obama's birth certificate is 'rightfully' an issue with the American public, and that it is 'fair game' for politicians to question Obama's citizenship." Palin then went on to draw a connection between "that weird conspiracy theory freaky thing that people talk about that Trig isn't my real son" and the demands by Orly Taitz et al. for Hawaii native President Obama to produce his "real" birth certificate, blah blah blah.

Anyway, a few hours later - at 1:16 am Friday morning - Palin must have thought better of joining yet another lunatic fringe, writing on her Facebook page:
Voters have every right to ask candidates for information if they so choose. I’ve pointed out that it was seemingly fair game during the 2008 election for many on the left to badger my doctor and lawyer for proof that Trig is in fact my child. Conspiracy-minded reporters and voters had a right to ask... which they have repeatedly. But at no point – not during the campaign, and not during recent interviews – have I asked the president to produce his birth certificate or suggested that he was not born in the United States.

- Sarah Palin
Well, thank goodness; I'm so relieved to know that! Heh. Now, to start my own little crazy movement, I'd say we should all demand that Palin produce her "real" college transcripts, her "real" certificate of resignation as governor of Alaska, etc. Oh, and for any Sarah Palin fans reading this blog: that was snark.
