Nearly 2 Feet of Snow in Parts of Virginia

Saturday, December 19, 2009

These snowfall totals are from around 9:30-10 am, so I'd guess they're 2-3 inches higher by now.

Albemarle County (Crozet): 20.0 inches
Arlington County (Reagan National Airport): 7.5 inches
Augusta County (Fishersville): 21.0 inches
Charlottesville: 16.5 inches
Fairfax County: 7.0 inches (Springfield) to 11.0 inches (Herndon)
Fauquier County (Opal): 14.0 inches
Fredericksburg: 11.2 inches
Front Royal: 10.5 inches
Highland County (Mustoe): 21.5 inches
Leesburg: 9.0 inches
Winchester: 11.5 inches
Woodbridge: 10.5 inches

In other news, there's a blizzard warning for the Washington, DC area until 6 pm. Also, "parts of Interstates 81 and 77 have been shut down;" "Area airports remain open, with some flights going out;" "Metro opened for service Saturday;" "the U.S. Postal Service anticipates normal deliveries on Saturday, except where road closures block routes;" and most importantly of all (snark) a few days before Christmas, "Several local mall managers said they were making every effort to remain open on Saturday and keep employees and shoppers safe." I'm not sure how you get to the local mall, but if you can make it there, you can shop 'til you drop apparently! :)
