This is unacceptable. It is also a perfect example of why Governor Kaine needs to issue an immediate, blanket restoration of voting rights for people who have "done their time" and "paid their debt to society." And no, Kaine's excuse that he would love to issue a "blanket restoration" but doesn't have the authority to do so is nonsense, as the Virginia Organizing Project has demonstrated. Specifically, "Article V, Section 12 of the Constitution grants the Governor plenary authority to 'remove political disabilities consequent upon conviction.'" No more excuses, Governor Kaine, just make it happen before you leave office in 2 1/2 weeks!P.S. See here for more on this subject.
