GOP to Steele: STFU About Rush or Pack Your Bags

Wednesday, March 4, 2009

With regard to the Rush Limbaugh vs. Michael Steele death match, the Republican troops are choosing up sides, and it's not good news for the Steele team. In fact, it can't get much less subtle than this:
Apology to Rush Limbaugh aside, new Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is coming under fire from his own GOP troops to shut up and focus on his job of organizing the party and raising money, not fighting with his own political kind...

...Steele needs to focus and knuckle down on building a strong foundation at RNC so we can begin rebuilding our majority," says a top GOP strategist who has worked for House and Senate Republican leaders. "If his implosion continues, RNC members are likely to call a special session to dump him for an effective chairman. There is not much patience for failure..."

..."An RNC chairman who attacks Republicans and insults conservative icons is about as counterproductive as any Democrat could hope for," says the adviser.
Well, yes, we Democrats are most certainly enjoying this. On the other hand, how counterproductive would it be for Republicans to fire Steele and prove, once and for all, that they are the Rush Limbaugh "Dittohead" party of kneejerk "no," negativity, and nastiness? If that's how the Republicans want to define themselves against the Obama-led Democratic Party, that's their choice to make, but I think it's a huge mistake. Not that they're listening to advice from people like me. :) So...let the Republican death match continue; we Democrats will just settle into our comfy chairs, drink a beer, and enjoy it (while we focus on getting things done for the American people; ya know, like actually GOVERNING the country).
