6,137 People on Terry McAuliffe Conference Call

Thursday, March 19, 2009

I'm listening to Terry McAuliffe's conference call, and right now (7:17 pm) there are 6,137 people on the call. So far, here are a few things Terry has said that I really like.

*He would NOT have repealed the estate tax.
*He would loosen the Dillon Rule.
*He will NOT take any money from Dominion Power and "will not be in their pocket." (note: I suggested this to Brian Moran many months ago and he said he'd think about it. Apparently, he's still thinking. LOL)
*He will NOT take any money from a company that took TARP funds.
*He would not get rid of the car tax because it's a "shell game" (localities would have to raise taxes to make up for the lost revenues) and also because Jim Gilmore almost bankrupted the state when he tried to do it.
*He's for mandatory renewable portfolio standards and high-speed rail.
*He's for having an honest discussion about revenue.
*He's determined to take back the House of Delegates.
*He will focus on jobs, jobs, jobs.
*He strongly supports pre-K education.
*He strongly supports biodiesel from...yeah, you guessed it, chicken waste! :)

How can any fair-minded person possibly argue that Terry McAuliffe is not a progressive?

UPDATE 7:40 pm: The conference call ended a few minutes ago. I was very impressed with the questions as well as the answers. I'm also impressed that Terry plans to do these every week; does this guy ever sleep? :)
