Vivian Paige Scoop: Rich Savage No Longer "Getting Savage" for LG

Friday, March 6, 2009

Vivian Paige has the scoop:
Rich Savage, the Richmond political consultant, has decided to suspend his campaign for lieutenant governor.

In a phone call this morning, Savage said he is proud of the race that he ran. He leaves with his head held high, having “raised the bar” on the issues, particularly his passion, education. Savage said that ecomonic conditions have made the race difficult and he doesn’t see anything changing.

Frankly, I'm not surprised at this announcement. I had a chance to meet Rich Savage and talk to him for a while at the Mt. Vernon Mardi Gras party a few weeks ago, and although he seems like a great guy, he wasn't particularly upbeat about his campaign. Specifically, when I asked him how his campaign was going, instead of saying what most candidates do ("great!"), he told me honestly that he was having trouble raising money. Anyway, I wish Rich Savage the best of luck in his future endeavours, including his work on middle school and high school students through The Savage Foundation.

P.S. And then there were four: Jon Bowerbank, Pat Edmonson, Mike Signer, and Jody Wagner.
