Gov. Kaine Statement on Climate Change Symposium

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Man, do I wish this were true: "2009 is the year of energy and the environment in Virginia." In fact, I wish EVERY year in Virginia were "the year of energy and the environment." But, sadly, it isn't (thanks in large part to anti-environment members of the Virginia House of Delegates). :(
STATEMENT OF GOVERNOR KAINE

RICHMOND – Governor Timothy M. Kaine issued the following statement today on global warming and the Climate Change Symposium in Washington, D.C.:

“I was honored today to join with former Primer Minister Tony Blair, leading economists and energy experts, Members of Congress, and other Governors to discuss climate change. We know that the issues around global warming and climate change reach across party lines and across national boundaries, across state borders and communities. That's why we must work together on global solutions as well.

“Virginia’s large agricultural economy and our Atlantic coastline give us a keen interest in climate change, and the innovative spirit of our citizens has already shown we can create real solutions that benefit our economy and our environment. As Governor and as Chairman of the Southern Governor’s Association I have made the development of strategies to address climate change a top priority for my state and our region.

“2009 is the year of energy and the environment in Virginia, and we are focused on reducing our energy consumption, encouraging cleaner alternative fuels, and protecting our open spaces and the Chesapeake Bay.

“I look forward to working with elected, community, and business leaders throughout the global community to solve this worldwide problem.”
