[Rep. Artur] Davis for Governor today announced the addition of several veteran political operatives with proven experience in political battlegrounds as the campaign continues to gear up for the 2010 election year.Artur Davis' opponent in the Democratic primary is Ron Sparks. One of the issues in the campaign so far has been health care reform, with Davis voting against the House health care reform bill and Sparks "attempting to make him pay a political price for that vote, at least in the Democratic primary." Should be interesting; primaries are always such fun, as we all know. :)

Director of Strategy Jon Paul Lupo, who has consulted with the Davis campaign, will be joining the staff full-time. He has a decade of experience in political research and communication, and has a winning track record in battleground races. Lupo served as Director of Policy and Research for current U.S. Senator Jim Webb in his upset victory over incumbent George Allen in 2006, as well as Deputy Campaign Manager for U.S. Senator Tim Johnson in his 2008 re-election campaign in South Dakota.

Jessica Vanden Berg of Maverick Strategies will continue in her role as senior advisor to the campaign.
“Thanks to his hard work and early start, Artur Davis is in an extremely strong position heading into the New Year, leading his opponent in the Democratic primary by a wide margin and running dead even or ahead of the GOP field in the general election,” said Vanden Berg. “Mark Jones and the new members of Team Davis will allow us to continue to build upon this solid foundation."
