Washington Post Endorsements Go Down to Defeat in Droves

Tuesday, November 3, 2009

After tonight, I think it's fair to say, "So much for the great power and influence of a Washington Post endorsement." Compare these Post-endorsed candidates with the actual winners and losers.

Creigh Deeds: Lost
Jody Wagner: Lost
Steve Shannon: Lost
John Bell: Lost
Dave Poisson: Lost
Margi Vanderhye: (Apparently) Lost
Mark Keam: (May have) Won
David Bulova: Won
Danny Smith: Lost
Vivian Watts: Won
Susan Conrad: Lost
Dave Marsden: (Barely) Won
Greg Werkheiser: Lost
Mark Sickles: Won
Scott Surovell: Won
David Englin: Won
Charniele Herring: Won
Eric Brescia: Lost
Aaron Ringel: Lost
Jeanette Rishell: Lost
Paul Nichols: Lost
Luke Torian: Won
James Scott: Won
Chuck Caputo: Lost
Tom Rust: Won

It looks like 11-14 for the Post, with 7 of their "wins" in totally - or almost totally - safe seats (Herring, Scott, Englin, Sickles, Watts, Surovell, Bulova), which made their won-loss record look a lot better than it really was. In short, a Washington Post endorsement is barely worth the paper it's printed on.
