Capitol Police Were Prepared to Arrest Bachmann Tea Partier for Assault on Congressman Connolly

Friday, November 6, 2009

I've managed to get more of the story of what happened in Gerry Connolly's office yesterday with the Michele Bachmann "tea partiers."

Basically, the Washington Post story is correct, but if anything understates what happened. What I'm hearing is that the anti-health-reform protestor mentioned in the Post article grabbed Congressman Connolly's arm hard with both her hands. She attempted to restrain Congressman Connolly as he tried to finish his conversation with the tea partiers and head to the House floor for a series of votes. Apparently, the Capitol Police were fully prepared to arrest the protestor (who refused to give her name), but Congressman Connolly said not to do so. The police then ordered the protestor to leave the building.

That's what we're dealing with, apparently, with at least some of these anti-health-reform folks - screaming at town hall meetings, calling Barack Obama a communist (and many other horrible things), assaulting Congressmen, etc. Lovely, eh?
