Huckabee LOL's at Cantor's Listening Tour

Tuesday, May 12, 2009

This is hilarious, and oh so true:
Mike Huckabee says he is having trouble not “laughing out loud” at the National Council for a New America, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor’s (R-Va.) effort to rebrand the Republican Party.

“A new group was recently formed that is calling itself a group of experts for the purpose of making the Republican Party attractive to voters again,” the former Republican presidential candidate wrote in a column posted Monday on the Fox News website. “The strategy is supposedly to go on a listening tour so they can talk to the American people and hear what people are concerned about.”

“It's hard to keep from laughing out loud when people living in the bubble of the Beltway suddenly wake up one day and think they ought to have a listening tour; even funnier when their first earful expedition takes them all the way to the suburbs of Washington, D.C.”

Huckabee has been critical of the group since its formation, saying in a statement last week that it represents a “sad day” in Republican politics.
What I find most interesting about Huckabee's criticism is that Cantor's "panel of [listening] experts" includes Huckabee's 2012 presidential rivals Gov. Bobby Jindal (R-LA), Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), Gov. Haley Barbour (R-MS), former Gov. Mitt Romney (R-MA) and former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-FL). Do you think that might have something to do with Huckabee's harsh criticism of Cantor, notwithstanding the fact that a Republican "listening tour" really IS a stupid idea?
