Brink, Whipple Endorsement Fires Up the Grant Supporters!

Friday, May 15, 2009

The endorsement this morning by Mary Margaret Whipple and Bob Brink of Patrick Hope for the 47th House of Delegates District has, ironically, had the effect of firing up...the Miles Grant grassroots supporters! :) For instance, I strongly agree with this comment at the Washington Post by a Grant fan:
Not really a surprising development. For reasons beyond my ken, Patrick seems to be the 'establishment' Democratic candidate. I'm sure he's a fine person but he hasn't radiated a lot of warmth in the events I've seen him at, such as the ACDC debate. For all his talk of consensus building I can't see Patrick being an engaging networker in Richmond.

Miles Grant's got that skill - it's how he won me over when looking at the race. Strong ideas cogently communicated. It's shortsighted of MMW and Bob Brink to view him as just an environmental candidate. Ask the other candidates to speak cogently on the Dillon Rule and see what happens. Miles Grant will be a superb delegate who'll fight for progressive values. We need more of that in Richmond.
I also strongly agree with my friend Kip Malinosky, who writes:
I have great respect for Delegate Brink and Senator Whipple, but I strongly believe Miles Grant will be the most forceful advocate for Arlington values in Richmond. Miles has been Chair of the Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment (ACE) and Chair of the Arlington Community Role Models (CRM). As Chair of ACE, Miles convinced the board to send Governor Kaine a letter opposing the widening of I-66. As Chair of CRM he helped hundreds of young Arlintonians in helping their community. His work for the National Wild Life Federation has made him an expert and advocate on clean energy and climate action issues. Finally, Miles's campaign has engaged dozens of volunteers in door-door canvassing, calling, and listening to the concerns of voters.

We should elect a real progressive not just another can't we all get along candidate. Whatever happens in this race Miles, will be doing all he can to help the Democrats retake 51 seats in the house of Delegates.
Kip has it exactly right on this one; we need a strong, articulate progressive champion and a fighter for the 47th District. In short, we need Miles Grant!
