"It's Tough to be Rep. Glenn Nye These Days"

Wednesday, July 8, 2009

So much for the "politically safe" vote.

Despite a campaign pledge to make sure we "lead the world in development of technologies that will secure American jobs," Rep. Glenn Nye (D-VA) recently voted against the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act. The bill, which passed the House on a bipartisan vote, would make polluters pay for their global warming emissions, create new incentives for clean energy, and protect our natural resources for future generations.

Well today, David Campbell over at VBDems.org caught Nye trying to have it both ways on ACES -- both praising the bill as "a new course toward a clean energy economy" and pandering to conservatives by falsely calling the bill a tax. Nye's duplicity (and Campbell's stellar reporting) has been picked up by Politico, who said, "It’s tough to be Rep. Glenn Nye (D-Va.) these days," along with Not Larry Sabato and many others.

Considering Nye already has Republican challengers, you'd think he'd be trying to rally his supporters. But Nye not only tried to torpedo President Obama's clean energy agenda, he tried to lie about it.

Rep. Nye is up for re-election in 16 months. He's got a lot of work to do to convince Democrats he's worth fighting to save.
