This is Supposed to Make Me Feel Better?

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Gerry Connolly's office pointed me to this CBS story and video as "more informative and concise than some of the other video and information that has been circulated lately" regarding Gerry Connolly's position on paying for health care reform. Well, sorry, call me stupid, but I still don't get it. The answer to everything is "cost savings?" There's something wrong with increasing taxes by 5% on individuals making over $280,000 per year (14% of the 11th District, meaning that 86% earn less than $280,000 per year) to help pay to provide health care to all Americans? And the best question of all, by Nancy Cordes of CBS News, "How do you pay for health care reform if every single method that's proposed to pay for it gets shot down? And no, I do not believe that "let's look at savings" is even close to a sufficient answer Sure, obviously, let's LOOK at savings, but does anyone believe we can provide quality, affordable health care coverage to all Americans just by "savings" alone? I don't. Anyone else?

UPDATE: Speaking of savings, check this out! "A new study from the Commonwealth Fund finds that the public option could save the country $265 billion."
