GOP Congresswoman: Katrina Wasn't an Emergency

Wednesday, July 22, 2009

The last time we saw Rep. Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), she was getting destroyed by Al Gore after she accused him of only being in the climate action business for the money.

This time, she doesn't need Al's help -- she's being a buffoon all by herself:
Urging the adoption of tougher standards than the bill provides, the Tennessee Republican said she hoped lawmakers would agree “that we’re not going to cry ‘emergency’ every time we have a Katrina, every time we have a tsunami, every time we have a need for extra spending.”
Rep. Blackburn doesn't think Hurricane Katrina was an emergency worthy of federal attention? If helping victims of a natural disaster isn't a government responsibility, what is?

Attention Hampton Roads residents: you better hope the next time a hurricane hits, Republicans aren't in charge. Your cries of "emergency" may fall on deaf ears.
