The Only Poll That Matters...

Monday, June 8, 2009

The SurveyUSA poll results (Deeds 42%, McAuliffe 30%, Moran 21%) that just came out doesn't look good for Terry supporters like me. On the other hand, cliches are sometimes true, so let's hope that "the only poll that matters is the one on election day" cliche holds up tomorrow. Let's also hope that the McAuliffe turnout effort is able to do the trick and get its voters to the polls. If it does, I believe that Terry can still win this thing. If it doesn't, then Creigh Deeds will be our nominee, and I'll strongly support him against Bob McDonnell. But first things first - get out and vote...for Terry McAuliffe! :)

By the way, it looks like Brian Moran will almost certainly finish last tomorrow, barring extremely high turnout in Alexandria and Arlington and extremely low turnout everywhere else in Virginia (although according to SurveyUSA, Moran's even trailing in NOVA, so maybe high turnout in Alexandria and Arlington won't even save him). It's utterly amazing when you think that a year ago at this time, Moran was considered the overwhelming favorite in a two-person against Creigh Deeds. If Moran does end up in last place, it appears that his negative campaign may have hurt Terry McAuliffe, but it also killed his own chances. Meanwhile, Creigh's strategy of letting Brian and Terry knock each other out while he stayed positive could - and I emphasize could - end up working. Creigh also got the unexpected bonus of the Washington Post's endorsement, which to his campaign's credit, they spread all over tarnation.

Again, though, let me repeat the cliche: the only poll that matters on election day. So, get out there and vote for Terry McAuliffe, and let's ruin the pollsters day tomorrow! :)

UPDATE: Thanks to NBC12's Ryan Nobles for this:
...While Feld and Tribbett have provided McAuliffe an excellent opportunity to spread his message, they are not employed by the campaign. They can say whatever they want and while they often regurgitate talking points, both have a reputation to protect. Their readers expect an honest assessment of their view of the race.

Right now, that is exactly what they are giving them
