Live Blog at Noon: Jon Bowerbank for LG

Wednesday, May 13, 2009

Jon Bowerbank will be here on Wednesday (today) from Noon to 1 pm to talk about his run for the Democratic lieutenant governor nomination. Thanks to Jon for joining us, please feel free to leave your questions in the comments section. The following is a statement from Jon Bowerbank.
I’m Jon Bowerbank, and I’m running to be the next Democratic Lt. Governor of Virginia because I believe we need to elect leaders who can help spur job creation. With 300,000 Virginians unemployed, we are facing the most challenging economic crisis since the Great Depression. We need a Lt. Governor who will stand up for the hardworking Virginians who are losing their jobs, cannot make their mortgage payments, or are losing their retirement money. I’m running for Lt. Governor because I strongly believe that I have the background to help spur job creation and transform our economy and I am committed to standing up for Virginians 365 days a year, 24 hours a day.

As you might already know, the Constitution of Virginia only requires the Lieutenant Governor spend two months of the year presiding over the Senate. While those duties are an important part of our political process, I believe the other ten months in the year present a unique opportunity for a Lt. Governor with my skillset in business as a job creator. I would use that time to travel all over the Commonwealth, and all over the country, to meet with and talk to business leaders and workers. This would allow me to use my time and energy to develop partnerships that can help create an environment that allows businesses and jobs to thrive right here in Virginia.

Using the experience I obtained in the alternative energy and infrastructure business, as well as in my work in the community, I will devote my tenure as Lt. Governor to focusing on creating jobs, transforming our economy for a new energy future, building a 21st century modern infrastructure system, and improving and investing in our public education system.

I strongly encourage you to visit my website, www.jb2009.com, where you can learn more about my background and the campaign, sign up to volunteer, or even make a donation.

Finally, I’d like to thank Lowell for all he’s done to help Virginia Democrats and for providing the platform for today’s discussion. I look forward to answering your questions!
