Thousands of anti-tax protesters have come to DC -- all through tax-funded methods, either traveling on tax-funded roads, landing at tax-funded airports, or riding tax-funded Amtrak. To get to the protest, most rode tax-funded Metro. And they'll gather on tax-funded public lands to have their protest.
The disconnect from reality is easily tracked on Twitter. Even though organizers are only shooting for a turnout of 100,000, it seems someone plucked the figure 1.2 million protesters from thin air. Now that's making the rounds on Twitter, falsely attributed to DC Police, who are very careful about giving crowd estimates. If you're already a birther and a deather, why not a Million Moron Marcher? (UPDATED UPDATE: Nico Pitney puts crowd at 40K after talking to DC police.)
And as Dave Weigel tweeted, "The irony of a pack of red-staters coming to DC to yell about THEIR lack of representation is delicious." Apparently they thought the taxation without representation signage was teabagger-related.
This photo really sums it up. Check out the woman's sign in the front row. I take it she must be pro-choice ... right?
UPDATE 2:27pm: Washington Independent has more photos from the rally.
