Karl Rove Campaigns for "the neoconservative Kevin Bacon"

Monday, September 14, 2009

Gotta love this - courtesy of the Virginia House Democratic Caucus - particularly the quote by Ward Armstrong about Karl Rove being "the neoconservative Kevin Bacon, only a degree or two away from every extreme Republican in Washington." Ha.
Karl Rove Rakes It In For Barbara Comstock
Republican Spin Master Continues National GOP Fundraising Parade

Tomorrow night, House of Delegates candidate Barbara Comstock will return to the north side of the Potomac for a fundraiser with none other than Karl Rove, architect of the George W. Bush presidency. Comstock - herself a "key member" of Bush's 2000 presidential campaign - is challenging incumbent Delegate Margi Vanderhye in Virginia's 34th House District.

Rove is only the latest in a series of Comstock's national Republican friends to headline her campaign events - Haley Barbour attended her campaign kickoff, Mary Matalin and Liz Cheney hosted a Fred Thompson fundraiser in April, and Newt Gingrich spoke at a breakfast in August. Next week, Comstock's old boss Mitt Romney comes to town for a high-dollar event in Great Falls.

Such gatherings begin to paint a far more complete picture of Barbara Comstock than the one found on her campaign web site, where she describes herself as an unassuming "small businesswoman" actively involved in the McLean community.

In reality, Comstock is a consummate Washington insider, having played a direct or indirect role in nearly every Republican misadventure of the last two decades. From her humble beginnings in the investigative witch-hunts of the Clinton administration to heading up an elite crisis management firm founded "just in time for subpoena season," Comstock has flacked and spun her way to the upper echelons of GOP power.

The Washington Post named her a "one-woman wrecking crew." Former colleague David Brock described her as "almost unhinged." Sean Hannity calls her a "good friend."

Now, Comstock's cashing in a lifetime worth of favors and claiming she'll work on a "bipartisan basis" to bring solutions in Richmond. But does she even know what "bipartisan" means?

"Barbara Comstock is the neoconservative Kevin Bacon, only a degree or two away from every extreme Republican in Washington," said House Minority Leader Ward Armstrong. "From Dan Burton to John Ashcroft to Tom DeLay, the gang's all here. I don't think the people of Fairfax County are particularly nostalgic for that kind of leadership."
P.S. Please help the excellent Del. Margi Vanderhye as generously as you can. Thanks.

P.S. See here for more on Comstock, "a key cog in the Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy, dating back to the early Clinton years." For more (if you can stand it), see FireDogLake.
