Sen. Creigh Deeds, the Democratic nominee for governor, will report raising nearly $3.5 million over the past two months, according to campaign finance reports to be submitted on Tuesday. The Deeds campaign gathered strong grassroots momentum in July and August with 2,284 new donors. More than 90 percent of the donors came from in-state, and 68 percent of them gave less than $200.To date, Deeds for Virginia has raised $9,691,221.77, spent $5,314,253.02, and has $4,376,968.75 cash on hand. This compares to $5,667,231.48 cash on hand for Tim Kaine at the same point four years ago, although Deeds has raised and spent several times more.
In total, the campaign raised $3.48 million from July 1 through August 31, marking the most successful campaign finance period to date.
Now, here's Steve Shannon's information from a campaign press release:
Steve Shannon released the following statement today announcing that he has more than twice the cash on hand of his opponent in the race for Attorney General. Shannon raised more than $534,000 in July and August and finished the period with more than $1.6 million on hand. Shannon’s cash on hand total is more than double what his opponent Ken Cuccinelli reported earlier today.UPDATE: The Richmond Times Dispatch reports that Ken Cuccinelli raised "$617,382 during this recent period and has $752,291 cash on hand." The PilotOnline reports that "Jody Wagner out-raised Republican incumbent Bill Bolling during the reporting period – she collected more than $636,000, while Bolling netted about $546,000 – but the incumbent Republican has a larger stockpile in his campaign war chest."
“Once again I am honored by the strong support I have received from thousands of Virginians from Martinsville to Mount Vernon who have responded to my plan to make Virginia safer by cracking down on gangs, drunk driving and Internet predators who target our kids. With their support I will be able to continue running a strong campaign and communicating my public safety vision across Virginia."
UPDATE #2: Hotline tweets, "McDonnell raised $3M in the same quarter as Deeds raised $3.5M, reports $1.5M more CoH."
UPDATE #3: DPVA chair Richard Cranwell writes, "Today, the Republican National Committee announced they are committing to spending $7 million in Virginia this year and their first down payment was a $400,000 contribution to Bob McDonnell this morning." Cranwell requests that everyone "[c]ontribute today to help us fight back against National Republicans."
