"It's Time" for Real Health Care Reform

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

This means many things, including making sure that every American has access to high-quality, affordable health care as a basic human right. It means offering a "publ8ic option" as an alternative to HMO's, PPO's, etc. It also means focusing our limited resources on prevention, which gives us by far and away the biggest health care "bang for the buck," as it helps avoid serious illness and huge treatment expenses down the line. Finally, we need to pay for health care reform so the budget deficit doesn't get any worse, and that means - yes, GASP! - raising taxes on those able to pay.

So, you ask, who are those Americans able to pay more so that everyone can have access to high-quality, affordable health care in this country? They're called "rich people," and there's absolutely no reason why they shouldn't be paying at least what they were paying before Bush foolishly cut their taxes for not good reason back at the beginning of his disastrous tenure in office. As far as I'm concerned, any Democrat who opposes taxing the top 1% in order to provide a basic human right to the other 99% is no Democrat. End of story.
