Bob McDonnell gives Sarah Palin the Heisman

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

Well, Ex-Governor Sarah Palin might need to wait a bit longer to help get fellow conservatives elected. Because it doesn't look good for 2009:

But the Republican candidates for governor in those two states [New Jersey and Virginia] are being cagey on whether or not the polarizing Alaskan will be welcome on the campaign trail.

In Virginia, where Bob McDonnell is running in a tight race against Democrat Creigh Deeds, a spokeswoman for McDonnell's campaign would say only: "We have not held or announced any events with governor Palin." The campaign would not say if the 2008 vice presidential nominee had been invited.

But in February, McDonnell campaign manger Phil Cox told CNN that Palin had been offered an invitation to campaign for McDonnell. While Cox said nothing had been finalized, he added in that February conversation that Palin staffers "have indicated the governor wants to help."
I don't think McDonnell's campaign could have sounded more thanks-but-no-thanks if it tried. Not even a "we'd welcome her" or anything that would indicate some interest from the campaign's spokeswoman. Seeing how they went from an invitation in February to an event planner's version of "no comment" in July, you can see the political damage that Palin has just done to her so-called national ambitions this past week.

Remember, McDonnell is more than happy to cozy up on Pat Robertson's couch regardless of his advocating assassination attempts or blaming other Americans for terrorism. So, if a right-wing extremist like McDonnell doesn't want to be seen with you, then I think "toxic" is your new middle name.
