Former Bush Administration Official to Challenge David Englin

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

From Del. David Englin.
I just confirmed with the State Board of Elections that the Alexandria GOP did certify Victoria "Vicki" Vasques yesterday as their candidate for the 45th District. She's lived in Old Town since 1999 and was President George W. Bush's Director of the Office on Indian Education and Deputy Assistant Secretary of Education, responsible in part for implementing No Child Left Behind. She served on the Commission on Indian Reservation Economics and on the Presidential Commission on the HIV Epidemic in the Reagan administration. Her husband, Fabrice Vasques, is a vice president with Capmark financial services, and their daughter, Alex, attends St. Stephen's & St. Agnes' private school.

I happened to knock on her door Sunday when I was out canvassing and we had a very pleasant conversation. She committed to me that she would run a positive campaign with no personal attacks and asked that I do the same, which I of course was happy to agree to.

Best,

David
