Michael Jackson: Gone Too Soon

Thursday, June 25, 2009

From Wikipedia:
"Gone Too Soon" is a song by Michael Jackson. It is the ninth single taken from the album Dangerous. It peaked at #33 on the UK Singles Chart in December 1993.

The song is dedicated to Ryan White, a young victim of AIDS whom Jackson befriended prior to his death. Michael performed this song at the ball for former President Bill Clinton's first inauguration on January 20, 1993, where he highlighted the importance of supporting research for a cure to this disease.
And from a much more innocent time.

Whatever else one might think about him as a person - and he definitely had his "issues" - Michael Jackson was an incredible talent the likes of which we may never see again. I find it particularly sad that he was on the verge of a major comeback tour which was almost certain to be a tremendous success, when he was suddenly struck down. Very sad.

P.S. I agree with Peter Daou that "With the loss of anyone famous what we're really mourning is the passage of our own lives, their death a marker on OUR journey."
