Roland Burris Needs to Resign

Friday, February 20, 2009

I agree with the Governor Pat Quinn (D) of Illinois: Roland Burris needs to resign from the U.S. Senate.
Quinn said Burris never should have accepted the appointment from then-Gov. Rod Blagojevich and erred when he failed to disclose fully his contacts with some of Blagojevich's closest advisers.

He praised Burris as a "wonderful human being" and a "dear friend." He called him "inspirational" and "god-fearing." But he said a decision to resign would be seen as "an act of fortitude and doing what's right for the common good."

"To step aside would be a heroic act," Quinn told reporters in Chicago, "and I ask Roland to do it."
Blagojovich is gone, his hair is just a bad memory, now it's time for his highest profile legacy - Senator Roland Burris - to pack it in as well. Unfortunately, something tells me Burris has other ideas, and there's really nothing anyone can do about it unless some big-time smoking gun is revealed and he can be impeached. So far, it's just general sliminess, the last thing we need at a time of economic crisis the likes of which we haven't seen since the Great Depression.
