59 Votes....Just Waiting for Sherrod Brown

Friday, February 13, 2009

According to CSPAN, the final Senate vote on the $787 billion economic stimulus and recovery plan is being held up to wait for Sherrod Brown to return from his mother's wake in Ohio. Currently, the bill has 59 votes, which means Sen. Brown will cast the deciding, 60th vote. Sadly, Ted Kennedy was too ill to make it to the Senate in order to vote. Very sad.

UPDATE: It passed, with 60 votes, including just 3 Republicans - Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. Apparently, most Republicans would rather have the economy collapse than compromise their "principles" (you know, the same ones they just finished compromising for the past 8 years).
