Not so soggy Shad Planking

Wednesday, April 15, 2009

Turns out the weather forecast was a bit off - today's Planking didn't get washed away. Although I didn't make it, Lowell took the ride down and got to enjoy the festivities. He's passed along a few tidbits to consider while waiting for him to make it back to present his full report.

* Turn out wasn't bad for a somewhat soggy day. At least if you count the traffic mess getting out.

* McAuliffe crushed the competition in the sign battle [Lowell's note - McAuliffe had around 25,000 signs]. Looks like McDonnell came in a distant second. Word is that Moran decided to pull out of sign battle altogether. Deeds was in Southwest Virginia and didn't compete in the sign battle.

* Bowerbank won the LG sign battle. No Wagner sign sightings. Signer, although he had significantly fewer signs, did make an impression with a rather unique sign design.

* The Cooch (Ken Cuccinelli) won the AG sign battle on Republican side with little showing from others.

* McDonnell gave a longer than allowed speech filled with Republican standards (BTW, I wonder if participated in any of the tea-bagging his fellow R's were so excited about getting into). Also like many in the Red camp, he is "ic" challenged when it comes to saying the D word.

* McAuliffe gave a good speech and in the process had to ad-lib to deal with some Republican hecklers - but also got a lot of love from his own supporters.

* I'm told Moran, in stark contrast, received little in the way of love or hate. Not good no matter how you slice it.

* George Allen was there with his buddy Jim Gilmore.

* No Jeff Frederick sightings. Guess J-Fred is busy plotting his great comeback.

Stay tuned for Lowell's full report with video.
