Bob McDonnell on CNN: No Public Option, "Opt In" or "Opt Out"

Sunday, November 8, 2009

Bob McDonnell's certainly a smooth and a talented politician, but is he really willing to move away from conservative ideological purity to a "bipartisan," "moderate" style as governor of Virginia? It seems that this is what Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, et al. are counting on, but I'm not really sure why they think this. Maybe because McDonnell is ambitious - I've heard he wants to be President - and wants to prove that he's not a Pat Robertson Republican? We'll see, but based on this interview, I don't see him giving much ground.

Also, it's going to be verrrry interesting to see how McDonnell handles Crazy Ken Cuccinelli in the Attorney General's office. Will he rein him in or let him run wild? That could be one of the biggest tests of whether McDonnell's more of a "pragmatic conservative" or a right-wing ideologue. Stay tuned...
