You probably saw how right-wing opinion leader and hate radio star Rush Limbaugh said that Robin Williams committed suicide not because of depression, but because he had a "leftist world view." Seriously, he really said that. And, as if that wasn't bad enough, he elaborate on his offensive and insane "thoughts."What is the left's world view in general?...If you had to attach, not a philosophy, but an attitude to a leftist world view. It's one of pessimism, and darkness, sadness. They're never happy, are they?...[Liberals] are animated in large part by the false promises of America, because the promises of America are not for everyone...[Robin Williams] had it all, but he had nothing. Made everybody else laugh, but was miserable inside. It fits a certain picture or a certain image that the left has. [I'm] talking about low expectations and general unhappiness...Robin Williams felt guilty that he was still alive while his three friends had died young, and much earlier than he had...He could never get over the guilt that they died and he didn't. Well, that is a constant measurement that is made by political leftists in judging the country.OK, so I think we can all agree that this is sick, warped, demented s***. So, of course leading Republicans and conservatives have condemned Limbaugh and denounced these remarks, right?Actually...no. Pretty much "crickets" so far. And that includes from 10th CD Republican nominee Barbara Comstock, who earlier this year explained how she voted for Barack Obama (!) in the 2008 Virginia Democratic presidential primary over Hillary Clinton at the supposed behest of none other than Rush Limbaugh and his bizarre "Operation Chaos" effort. Of course, Comstock was either confused or lying (or both), because "Operation Chaos" didn't start until AFTER the Virginia Democratic presidential primary, and was actually aimed at getting Republicans to cross over and vote for Hillary Clinton, NOT Barack Obama. So, other than being either brain-dead stupid and/or wildly dishonest, Comstock apparently believes - as the Washington Post put it - "that sucking up to Mr. Limbaugh, a vicious polemicist with a flair for toxic misogyny, gives her an aura of respectability." The Post concluded that "by jockeying to appeal to the most extreme fringe of the electorate, Republicans run the risk of alienating centrist, level-headed and educated voters in the 10th District." Now, Comstock's silence regarding Limbaugh's disgusting, fallacious smears about Robin Williams (and also about Democrats, liberals, progressives, etc.) just reinforces the points many of us made several months ago, when Comstock was caught in her bizarre "Operation Chaos" explanation: that she is at the "extreme fringe," wildly out of the mainstream, and has absolutely no business receiving the votes of any moderates, independents, or sane Republicans in the 10th CD this November. P.S. Don't hold your breath waiting for Comstock to condemn Limbaugh, as she's never condemned her other rabid endorsers like Mark Levin, Sean Hannity, and many others from the far-far-far-right fever swamps of American politics. |
