"Joe the Plumber" Campaigns for Laurence Verga

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Video courtesy of 220 South. Go Laurence Verga! :)

According to "Joe the Plumber":

*He came to campaign for Laurence Verga, in part, "because you like to smoke anywhere you want," in part "because you like to drive big V8 trucks that just smog up the atmosphere and leave a big carbon footprint." (alright, go Laurence Verga, let's have smoke and smog everywhere!)
*"There's no American spirit left." (see the next bullet point for how "Joe the Plumber" defines that spirit)
*"American patriotism is huge, Americans were kicking ass and taking names for 200 years, and we need to get back to that frame of mind." (yeah, America is all about "kicking ass," that's what I'm proud of!)
*"I hate being a victim in my own country...taking my shoes off, being checked and everything else, we're allowing these little terrorists, punk terrorists, to dictate what I do in my own country." (uh, you'd rather have no airport security? brilliant)
*"War's not pretty, but I mean do it, do it hard, do it fast and get it done." (again, the answer to everything is "kicking ass")
*"America was founded on God." (actually, many of the founders were deists, theists, etc., including Thomas Jefferson who wrote the anti-supernatural "Jefferson Bible")
*"I'm pretty black and white...right is right, wrong is wrong, period, end of story." (well, that explains a lot; at least he admits that it's just "easier" to live in a black-and-white world)
*"The constitution is right now as it was when it was written; no changes have ever been made to it, it's perfect and I do not need a lawyer to interpret it for me." (uh, did you ever hear about "amendments?")
*"Me, I'm not running for anything right now, I hope to god, god doesn't take me down that path one day." (I'll gladly join Mr. "The Plumber" in that prayer!)
*"I don't like abortion, I'll never vote for anything when it comes to abortion." (I don't know anybody who likes abortion, the question is whether it should be legal in certain circumstances or not)
*"I own about 5 guns, I don't own enough, I want more." (so who's stopping you "Joe?")
*"I don't believe in same sex marriage, you know, if you want to do that stuff, you leave it at home, it has no bearing in mainstream public life." (so much for social libertarianism; instead, "Joe the Plumber" says that if you don't like "that stuff," you should discriminate against the people who do it)
*"You shouldn't even know what [Nancy Pelosi] looks like...these guys should be working in the background to make our lives better instead of worse." (ban CSPAN!!! lol)
*"I don't like being in the spotlight...but this is more important [than plumbing] right now."

Robert Hurt's Strategist Disses "Joe the Plumber"?

Friday, January 8, 2010

I'm sure that this will go over real well among the tea party set.
Hurt, who is one of seven candidates running in the June 8 primary, will not participate in a Jan. 22 debate at the Albemarle County Office Building sponsored by Tea Party groups or in a Feb. 8 debate sponsored by the University of Virginia College Republicans.

Tea Party groups in the 5th District - which runs from the Charlottesville area down to Danville - have scheduled an additional two debates. Hurt’s strategist, Chris LaCivita, said the campaign has not been notified about those events.

[...]

Hurt, [Republican candidate Feda Kidd Morton] added, is calling for the Republican Party-sponsored debates as “a ploy to avoid the tough questions” that might be posed by the hardcore conservatives in the district’s Tea Party groups.

[...]

LaCivita dismissed Morton’s debate-ducking accusations.

“I guess some candidates will say anything to get their names in a newspaper article - including hiring Joe the Plumber,” he said.
Morton is referring, of course, to this event -- frozen yogurt with Mr. "The Plumber" in Charlottesville later today. It'll be a fun event, no doubt (bring the whole family!), but apparently Robert Hurt's senior strategist isn't amused. In fact, you can pretty much hear the contempt dripping from his mouth - kinda like melting yogurt - over "Joe the Plumber." Something tells me the tea partier set won't appreciate Hurt's and LaCivita's less-than-worshipful attitude towards their hero. Still, I wonder if Hurt is actually being quite smart about this, doing the minimum (e.g., taking a no-tax pledge) to be taken seriously as a "real" conservative, but distancing himself a bit from the crazies. I guess the question is, are there really as many tea partier types in the 5th CD as there appear to be? Also, how energized and organized are they? In the next few months, we're going to find out...starting with how many people join Mr. "The Plumber" for frozen yogurt in January.

P.S. Waldo has a bitingly sarcastic take on how the "six lesser dwarves basically want to have their debates in the parking lot in front of Perriello’s office while everybody burns a Muslim in effigy."

Frozen Yogurt With "Joe the Plumber" in C-Ville, Anyone?

Sunday, January 3, 2010

This looks like, uh, a cupful of frozen yogurt's worth of fun! :)
Remember “Joe The Plumber”? He’s coming to Virginia to support a 5th District Candidate. This article is brought to you by the “We Can’t Make This Crap Up” Department.

Joseph Wurzelbacher is coming to Arch’s Frozen Yogurt in Charlottesville on Friday to help raise money for Laurence Verga. You can attend the reception for only $25 (!). But you want a “private signed photo session”, don’t you? Well, you’re in luck, folks! That’s all yours for the Low $ale of the Century price of just $50!

[...]

It would be a cold day in hell before I’d head to this fundraiser. But come to think of it, being in a frozen yogurt shop with Joe the Plumber in Charlottesville in the middle of January probably would be an apt description of a cold day in hell.
Hahahahaha, this definitely falls into the "can't make this crap up" department. For even more hilarity, how about some of the things ol' Sam Wurzelbacher has said? Like, "I think media should be abolished from, uh, you know, reporting." Or, like, "I wouldn't have [openly gay people] anywhere near my children." Or, how about when he said that he would "beat the livin' tar out of [people like Nancy Pelosi]?" Or how about when he agreed that "a vote for Obama is a vote for the death of Israel?" Or that Social Security is a "joke?" On and on it goes, where the insanity stops, nobody knows. Except perhaps for Laurence Verga, who proudly admits that he is "very, very conservative" and "not trying to be middle-of-the-road at all." Sounds to me like Mr. Verga and Mr. The Plumber are going to greatly enjoy their frozen yogurts together. But not in a "queer" way, of course. Heh.

P.S. Possible yogurt choices for Mr. The Plumber include: Fluffer Nutter, Tree Hugger (well, maybe not), Nutty Buddy, and of course "Ridiculous."
