Oliver North is using climate change denialism to fundraise for his non-profit group Freedom Alliance. In a six-page stream-of-consciousness fundraising letter, North warns of the "liberty killing 'Cap and Trade' boondoggle" that socialists are plotting in response to the "phony climate 'crisis.'" The solution? Write him a check.

Nevertheless, in his letter and a petition sent to supporters, North mashes together all manner of wacky climate change denier talking points. The basic premise is that Barack Obama, Democrats in Congress, and climate scientists are socialists hell-bent on using a faked climate crisis to control the masses. North argues that "there is no proof of man-made global warming," that "the world has actually been cooling for the last ten years," and that "there is no evidence that greenhouse gases have anything to do with global warming in the first place." Plus, he points out: "If man is solely responsible for the warming of the earth, how did the ice age ever end without the help of automobiles and coal burning factories?"

Right, he's "cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs!" Anyway, thank you to John Warner for supporting Republican Attorney General (turned independent candidate) Marshall Coleman against North and saving us from this lunatic (not to mention felon) in the U.S. Senate!

Barack Obama, Jim Webb and John Warner at GMU on the Post-9/11 GI Bill

President Obama spoke today about the new GI Bill at George Mason University in Virginia. The program will pay for in-state public school tuition for troops who have served since Sept. 11, 2001. Here's the official White House transcript:

...There are a couple of people here who deserve all the credit, because they got a very tough bill done -- and part of the reason they were able to get it done was just because of their extraordinary personal credibility. These are -- one is new to the Senate and one had been there a while, and yet together they formed an incredibly formidable team. They're both class acts. Please give a big round of applause to Virginia's own, John Warner and Jim Webb. (Applause.).

... we owe the same obligations to this generation of servicemen and women, as was afforded that previous generation. That is the promise of the post-1911 [sic] GI Bill. It's driven by the same simple logic that drove the first GI Bill -- you pick the school, we'll help pick up the bill. And looking out at the audience today, I'm proud to see so many veterans who will be able to pursue their education with this new support from the American people.

And this is even more important than it was in 1944. The first GI Bill helped build a post-war economy that has been transformed by revolutions in communications and technology. And that's why the post-1911 -- 9/11 GI Bill must give today's veterans the skills and training they need to fill the jobs of tomorrow. Education is the currency that can purchase success in the 21st century, and this is the opportunity that our troops have earned.

John Warner: We Ignore Global Warming "at the peril of our national security "

I can't say it better than former Senator John Warner (R-VA).

Former Sen. John Warner is teaming up with the Pew Environmental Group on a new project that will focus on links between global warming, energy policy and national security, the group announced Tuesday.

"Leading military and security experts agree that if left unchecked, global warming could increase instability and lead to conflict in already fragile regions of the world," Warner said in a statement. "We ignore these facts at the peril of our national security and at great risk to those in uniform who serve this nation."

I'm very glad to see John Warner working hard both to safeguard our planet and our national security. Thank you, sir.

John Warner: Future Generations Will See What We Do on Climate Change

Former U.S. Senator John Warner (R-VA) testified this morning on the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009. "I feel very strongly committed," to passing climate change legislation, Warner said, adding that "this subject of climate change, the future of energy, and our national security are all interwoven very closely." Good stuff.
